My Success Story

If success is a story
Then let me tell mine
Though the road to glory
Has been a hard ride

The money’s been tight
And the troubles aplenty
Hadn’t it been for bad luck
I’d not have had any

I’ve been down more than up
I’ve been out more than in
I drain the bitter cup
Then fill it again

I’ve walked on glass
When I had no shoes
Fell flat on my ass
I know how to lose

I’ve made lots of trouble
In more than one town
Then made it a double
And then doubled down

Woe is me
For I am undone
Blind as can be
A Prodigal Son

But here I stand
Where I stood before
Pen in hand
Ready for more

I know where I’ve been
When I haven’t prevailed
On the Losing End
But I never failed

Failure is quitting
Refusing to stand
Just stay down, sitting,
Head in your hands

Mine’s a success story
You can all believe in
More gory than glory
Less saintly, more sin

A success story it is
And I will tell you just why
Jesus says that I’m his
And for me He would die

Success is failure
Turned upside down
Success is exchanging
Your cross for a crown

This is my story
This is my song
Singing his glory
All the day long
