I'm up in this tree That was built just for me It was planted, I don't know, About a century ago Only God knew back then About a wee little man Who needed this tree To go out on a limb On his way back to Him. I never stood out Was lost in the crowd But the Romans fixed that Now, look where I'm at I'm holding the goods In the best neighborhood I wear purple and gold And do as I'm told For lucre that feels like blood They put my name In their mouth And then spit it out With the same Venom of hatred And doubt I'm a sham I'm ashamed I am what I am What's this? Can it be? Is Jesus Looking up at me? Is that my name In his voice? Is his outstretched hand Aimed at this little man Is He making me his choice? -Zaccheus
Then Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2And there was a man named Zacchaeus, a chief tax collector, who was very wealthy. 3He was trying to see who Jesus was, but could not see over the crowd because he was small in stature. 4So he ran on ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see Him, since Jesus was about to pass that way.
5When Jesus came to that place, He looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, hurry down, for I must stay at your house today.”
6So Zacchaeus hurried down and welcomed Him joyfully. 7And all who saw this began to grumble, saying, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinful man!”
Like 19:1-7 (Berean Study Bible)
If you find yourself up a tree, trapped like a frightened raccoon by a bloodthirsty pack of hounds, go out on a limb. Look for Jesus in the mayhem, listen for his voice amid the baying of Hell’s hounds. The only way to ever really be at home, the only way to find peace in the pandemonium is to take Jesus home with you.
Look how Jesus turned one man’s curiosity into salvation. Seek Him. He will never hide from the seeker, nor shrink from the sinner. Just look at the rest of the story…
9Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son of Abraham. 10For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Luke 19:9, 10
