You are not the chosen one, but you are chosen
I see too much evidence that people think they have cornered the misery market. Too many believe their brand of misery is a special blend and not available to the happy masses.
Give me a break
“Everyone else gets a break. Not me.”
Give me a break with that, will you?
I have been to enough places and in enough circumstances to know that people are the same kind of miserable everywhere. You don’t have to choose misery as a life partner, it already chose you before you were born.
Misery self-nurtures, too. It’s in your mother’s milk and your father’s disenchantment. It leers at you from the darkness and laughs at you in the daylight.

Give Misery a divorce
The only thing you can do to get rid of misery is to divorce yourself from it. Write yourself a restraining order, slap it on Misery, and then strictly enforce it by renewing your mind (Romans 12:2, the Holy Bible)1 every day, every hour, or however frequently Misery lurks in your neighborhood.
Replace it with joy (Nehemiah 8:10)2.
Give Joy a chance
Happiness is a choice but also aloof and will not choose you. You must choose happiness (Psalm 118:24)3. Misery will not wait for you to make your choice, either. Misery loves your company and will choose you every single time, all the time, and will always make you feel like you belong to Misery and Misery belongs with you.
Say NO to Misery. Say no to wallowing in self-pity. Say no to the Pity Party invitations perpetually provided in the form of lousy online advice (from fellow Misery-lovers) and Memes.
Choose joy. And then keep choosing it.

Nehemiah 8:10 – Then Nehemiah told them, “Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send out portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” (Berean Study Bible)
Psalm 188:24 – This is the day that the LORD has made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it. (Berean Study Bible
