If you are an American Christian or hold to traditional Judeo-Christian values, and you are paying attention, you must feel as if your faith, your future, your family, and your country are under all-out assault.
I know I do.
From the Supreme Court doing their bench-legislating best to redefine what the words “family,” “love,” and “marriage” mean; to the president urging those more “enlightened” to coach, cajole, and convince you dinosaurs that your values are no longer (and really never were) valid; to Christian bakers being sued and having a gag order imposed on them by the state for refusing to bake a same-sex wedding cake; to left-wing trouble-makers stoking the racial fires at every opportunity; to every crime committed resulting in those same left-wing control freaks demanding more control of your activities and ability to own firearms; to abortion being hailed as a women’s health matter, rather than a right-to-life issue; to a “gay” man suing Christian publishers for publishing a book (the Bible) that identifies homosexuality as sin, to…ad nauseum…
Every single day brings another national or local story of the all-outblitzkrieg-style assault on Christianity, morality, common sense, and social sanity.
Suppose I hadb begun today’s article like this:
THESE are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom should not be highly rated.
Would those words have seemed out of place or dated? Would they have felt like they were from some long-ago, all-but-forgotten time? Or, do they fit perfectly into what you read, see, and hear every day on social media, conventional media, the work place, and daily life?
Those words, of course, were penned by the patriot Thomas Paine. They introduced chapter one of a work he titled, The American Crisis.
They were written December 23, 1776!
They may as well have been written this morning. They may as well have been addressed to you and me. They may as well serve as a challenge to our own resolve to stand and fight the tyranny of the Christ-hating, self-loathing, anti-American, immoral – or amoral forces determined to rewrite history, redirect America’s future, and re-create “god” and “morality” in their own image.
Those who would marry a man to a man would also divorce America from the essential, overwhelmingly obvious influence of Christ and His teachings on her. They would wield a deliberate misinterpretation of “separation of church and state” to silence the church in the public arena. They would threaten those churches who dared to stand their moral ground on the fundamental issue of marriage with revocation of their no-tax status, essentially stripping them of their religious autonomy and making them subject to the whims and ways of the state.
THESE, my friend, are the times that try men’s souls. THESE are the days that call for men and women to be faithful soldiers of the Cross, to be true patriots. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will have no part in this battle. The stakes are too high. The cost may be too great.
But consider the alternative…
